JN Software Consulting: Looks at Online Backup Services PDF Print E-mail

JN Software Consulting looks at the cloud and backing up your company's information online plus September's Tip of the Month What should I use Microsoft Publisher for?

September Tips Newsletter - Reprint with permission of JN Software Consulting

joy_cloud_computingOver the past few years more and more companies and individuals have begun managing their important matters online in "the cloud" as opposed to keeping documents stored on their computer or local servers. It started years ago with people using online mail services like Hotmail or Gmail. Now companies are storing mission critical applications in Google Docs or on Microsoft Skydrive. Recently both of these suffered outages which concern many whose livelihood depends on the availability of these services. What concerns exist, and how can you mitigate them?
An excellent article can be found here. If you or your company keep important documents online or are considering moving toward such a model I encourage you to read it and learn how to leverage these beneficial technologies while still protecting yourself from problems that could arise.

TIP OF THE MONTH - SEPTEMBER/2011

What should I use Microsoft Publisher for?
Microsoft Word and Publisher both allow you to neatly format text and pictures into a document that you can print or email. So when should I use Publisher instead of Word? A simple rule is that Word is easier to type lots of text in, while Publisher gives you finer control over exactly where everything goes on the page. If you're looking to do any of the following, consider using Publisher.
  1. Place text and images in a variety of directions or areas on the page (such as in a newsletter or catalog)
  2. 2. Prepare something that will be professionally printed (business cards, brochures, etc)
  3. Design large size documents (such as banners and posters)
