“Well officer, he did sleep in this room and got up in the morning. It’s unmade and the covers show the force to which they were thrown away from his body upon leaving the bed. He must have initially put on his clothes from yesterday as the pile that normally sits next to the bed is gone, except for the underwear and socks, they are still here. There is no doubt in my mind he used the washroom as there is water all over the counter, splattering up the mirror and a towel hanging to dry. Toothpaste in the sink is definitely fresh and shaving cream, comb and hair gel are also evidence of bathroom usage.
The coffee maker is still plugged in, sugar bowl and used coffee spoon is on the counter, so I know he had his morning java. The mug...where is the mug? Yes, here it is at the side of the computer. He was on the computer today which I’m sure we can track if need be. That will be up to your department officer, I haven’t mastered technological investigative techniques as well as your team. The cereal bowl, plates, frying pan and other kitchen items show a distinct pattern of feeding throughout the day, so I’m certain he was here eating three meals. Snacking patterns are also visible as there are wrappers in front of the TV, chips on the floor in the family room and a glass of water. In fact, it can be confirmed he was in the snack cupboard, it is still open. He must have been hot at one point as his sweatshirt is in the living room but then cold later as a blanket is strewn across the family room couch. I can be almost certain he didn’t leave the house as his shoes are in the exact same place he left them and so is his vehicle. Also, typically he leaves the coat closet door open if he has been in it, so I’m quite sure he remained within these walls. There is indication he used the phone as it has not been placed back on the charger. He must have also used the second phone while he was upstairs as it is still up in the spare bedroom. Redial indicates he phoned his mother. He played two video games judging from the position of the video casings left on the chair. I can’t be certain that was all he viewed as he does on occasion put his games, TV and movie DVD’s back in the drawer. Those items are very important to him. My husband did leave the heat on, one element on the stove and a door unlocked which I believe he used to get to the newspaper that would have been delivered late this afternoon. It is on the kitchen table, still open.
I can assure you he then went to bed after his long day because a new pile of clothes are on the floor, socks and underwear included. Luckily I hadn’t cleaned all this up, or you Sir, would have had a more difficult time with this investigation.” |

There is no doubt in my mind that if an investigating officer came to me and ask “could you give an account of your husband’s whereabouts?” I could answer confidently “Yes” if he never stepped foot outside the house. Here’s how it would go:
